When I took these pictures and made this video, Maine Jazz legend Brad Terry was just about to celebrate his 78th birthday. Brad was thinking it might be time to give up playing music while he was still at the top of his game.
But, thankfully, he still hasn’t put away his clarinet.
Brad is now 87 and still playing.
“I try to hear something in my head and play it accurately once and then move on. If you practice licks or scales and patterns, then, when you’re improvising, you start using those patterns and you stop thinking.”
